Opera: The Magnificent Misdeeds of Madame Blanc
© 2025 Germaine Shames and Paul Scherer
An operetta in four tableaux for mezzo-soprano and piano
1) The Stain
2) Madame Blanc Takes a Lover
3) The Tax Man Calls
4) The Curtain Comes Down
While the character of Madame Blanc may be open to interpretation, three core traits define her:
1) Amorality: She lacks the slightest notion of morality and acts solely on instinct and self-interest.
2) Bitter resentment of society’s upper crust: Born poor and without pedigree, she is keenly aware of how the patrons whom she serves view her and thinks nothing of disposing of those who particularly irk her.
3) Inflated self-esteem: She is her own best fan.
